Iain is a Scottish pianist from the Isle of Arran, now based in London, working extensively across the UK and internationally as a collaborative and orchestral musician. He has performed in many of the UK’s leading concert halls, including the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Snape Maltings, Usher Hall, and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
As an orchestral pianist, he has appeared with many of the UK’s major orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Britten Sinfonia, performing across the UK, Europe, and the United States. An active chamber musician, Iain regularly collaborates with saxophonist Richard Scholfield (with whom he performed two Scottish tours in 2024), and flautists Joidy Blanco and Maria Filippova, among others.
Iain is a regular staff accompanist and coach at London’s major conservatoires and held the Collaborative Piano Fellowship at the Royal College of Music (RCM) from 2022–2024, working with the woodwind, brass, and percussion faculties. His debut album, featuring Malcolm Williamson’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Wind Quintet, was released in May 2025.
Away from the piano, Iain is a keen distance runner and enjoys cooking, baking, and travel—including a solo road trip through California in 2025.
Iain is a double graduate of the Royal College of Music, where he earned an Artist Diploma in Collaborative Piano and a Master of Performance degree, studying with Danny Driver, Simon Lepper, Nigel Clayton, and Kathron Sturrock. He previously completed a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under Jonathan Plowright and Heather Slade-Lipkin.
He was selected for the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Foyle Future Firsts and the Philharmonia Orchestra’s MMSF orchestral development schemes in 2022. Iain made his concerto debut at age 16 performing Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Junior RCS Symphony Orchestra and gave his international solo recital debut at Kaunas Piano Fest in Lithuania in 2019. His early accolades include winning the UK & Ireland final of the Rotary Young Musician competition in 2015 and receiving four competition prizes at RCS, including First Prize in the Conservatoire’s Chamber Music Competition.
